While collaborating with producers Grace and Chloe on a short-form webseries, Grace approached me with an exciting opportunity: capturing her upcoming live comedy special. The venue was a stunning, high-profile bar that offered the perfect backdrop, and we immediately jumped at the chance to bring the project to life.

The Production

Serving as director and producer, I worked hand-in-hand with Grace and Chloe to execute a flawless three-camera live recording. Capturing live comedy requires balancing technical broadcast standards with the energy of the room:

Dynamic Audio: We pulled a direct feed from the venue's house sound system and paired it with dedicated ambient room mics to capture both Grace’s performance and the crowd's authentic reactions.
Strategic Lighting: Because the audience was seated at floor level, we engineered a custom lighting setup that delivered the exact exposure needed for a crisp multi-cam edit without blinding the crowd or disrupting the intimacy of the show.

The Edit

Because I directed the shoot, taking the reins on the edit was a seamless transition. Knowing the footage inside and out allowed me to capture the absolute best look and pacing for the special. I worked closely with Grace throughout post-production to ensure her exact comedic timing translated perfectly to the screen, delivering a polished, high-impact final cut.
